My class blog

Hello all!
I realize that I have not been using this blog for our class assignments.  Instead, I've been running with the blog that I can use with iWeb (an application for the Mac).  Here are some pictures of what our class site looks like, as well as our blogs.

The included images show the welcome page, which has our class photo, a brief message to parents and then some student art (which parents can click on to get the full size image).  There are also photos of our class blog (where we talk about weekly news and science happenings), a homework blog (where students can get their weekly spelling words, see nightly homework and get some helpful links.)  There is also a class calendar so parents always know what we're doing.  I also included a photo of our recent science weekly discussion blog.  In the past I set aside time so students could post in school.  But this week I had them log in at home and post.  I was pleasantly surprised to see that I had a couple of students take the time and post!

Weblog ideas in the classroom

Deliverable 1

Some thoughts I've had about using weblogs in the classroom are:
  • Generating a list of "big ideas" learned throughout our Science Kits.  Students could work in pairs to post what they've learned over the previous week.
  • Book shares / Battle of the book notes (I'm borrowing this idea from Pd)
  • Possibly a pen-pal alternative to the old snail mail or email method
  • Posting homework for parents and students alike
  • Posting my weekly news (or have students create the weekly news for me.. discussing things they've learned over the week in all content areas)
If you have any other suggestions, let me know!
